Pyhllostachys edulis 'Moso'
Moso is the largest temperate bamboo that can be grown in Tennessee. Moso is not particularly hardy in Middle Tennessee, and we have renamed it "MoSlow". This plant is one of the first to shoot in the spring, and the shoots will grow to their maximum height in about 60 days! The shoots are edible, and the wood is used for flooring. We do not sell this bamboo because of its inconsistent and unreliable growth in Middle Tennessee.
Notice the cell phone at the base of the shoot!
These shoots are about 3 weeks old.
The Moso shoots are really growing fast now that the weather has warmed up. They have been out of the ground since the last week in March. Eight feet of growth in 30 days! They will be 20-24' tall with branches and leaves by the end of May. (March 2016)
